The 800m and 1,500m gold medallist, who triumphed at the Athens Olympics in 2004, hopes to ‘improve physical and mental wellbeing in the workplace’.

Personal Group offers physical, mental, social and financial help to workers, and its clients include Arsenal Football Club, the University of York and the Royal Mail.

Holmes, 51, will ‘guide the well-being strategy’ as it bolsters its app, Transform, which offers fitness videos and motivational speeches.

Personal Group listed on AIM over 20 years ago and has a market cap of £110million.

Holmes, who works as a motivational speaker, said: ‘My mental health took a drastic turn in 2003 and I suffered from depression, self-harm, anxiety and stress.

‘Being an elite sportsperson you are under pressure not to struggle, but everybody is a human.

A lot of my talks focus on mental health and well-being at work. Corporates have a responsibility to support employees.
