At the time of implementation, short term/infrequent sickness absence levels were high and through our staff forum, staff members advised us that they felt this was becoming an issue, placing pressure on staff who were at work. In addition, we had an enhanced occupational sick pay scheme that was significantly more generous than the rest of the sector and this was having a financial impact on our charity.
Increased costs due to short term/infrequent sickness absence, which was having an impact on employee engagement levels.
There was both a financial and people impact that would not have been sustainable long term. Having happy, healthy and motivated employees is key for us, as they are at the heart of our charity, so improving employee wellbeing was a priority. We were seeking a target of 70% engagement on the benefits platform to ensure that employees felt invested in, and had a direct link to RMBI Care Co.
The ongoing impact to budgets as well as a risk that employees who felt demotivated may begin to leave as a result. Service levels may also reduce in the Homes, causing additional challenges for the charity.
“Personal Group were able to offer a bespoke platform to package our benefits into one place. Combined with their Face-to-Face Engagement, we were able to reach a large number of employees, and the Practical Health Plan encouraged staff to become more proactive in managing their health.”
“Our Practical Health Plan, through Personal Group, offers peace of mind for our employees surrounding their general health, from Hospitalisation and unexpected Dental, Optical and therapies treatments.”
“Since joining Hapi, our employees have enjoyed many retail discounts and this has helped alleviate the cost of living for our colleagues, saving them over £22,000 (and counting!).”
We reviewed our occupational sick pay scheme to see where we could make savings. These savings were used to support the introduction of the Personal Group platform, and improved our wellbeing through the practical health plan, and reward offering to all staff.
91% of employees have activated their account on the Hapi platform. In addition 443 policy holders have chosen to purchase enhanced health plans, equating to over 30% of staff taking out an insurance policy.
