Q&A with Andrei Bugariu
The Cycle to Work Scheme is a government initiative aimed at promoting healthier lifestyles and reducing environmental impact by encouraging employees to cycle to work. By participating in this scheme, employees can purchase a bike (pedal or electric) and cycling accessories through their employer, enjoying benefits such as spreading the cost over a fixed period and tax savings through salary sacrifice. We caught up with Personal Group IT Developer, Andrei Bugariu who uses our scheme to find out about why he uses the benefit.
Why did you decide to purchase a bike through the company Cycle to Work scheme, rather than just buying yourself a bike?
The primary reason for choosing the Cycle to Work Scheme was the flexibility it offered me in terms of spreading the payments over a fixed period. I can manage the cost of the bicycle more effectively and helps budget to a fixed amount. Plus, the opportunity to save on tax via salary sacrifice was an added benefit!
Was it an easy process from start to finish?
I couldn’t wait to get going and in fact, the hardest part was actually choosing the bike! With so many different options to choose from, I finally whittled it down to a Raleigh Motus CrossBar and then moved on to selecting all the necessary accessories - the process was remarkably smooth.
How often do you cycle to work?
I currently come into head office three days a week and ride each time (rain or shine!).
What has the bike and cycling to work meant for you and your wellbeing?
Having used the bike for more than 12 months, my physical health and mental wellbeing have improved massively. Not only that, but by not using the car, it’s been an easy way to save and reduce my carbon footprint which feels great.
What would you say to other people considering this scheme?
I would highly recommend to my colleagues! It’s a great scheme to make use of, that’s if it’s right for you. I advise anyone interested in the Cycle to Work Scheme to do thorough research and make sure they understand the Terms and Conditions. Ensure you have a safe and suitable route for commuting from home to the office. Also, remember to use the certificate to purchase essential accessories like a helmet, seasonal clothing, locks, and lights.

Student loans – how to support workers repaying the cost of university
It’s the summer of 2025 and thousands of new university graduates are hitting the employment market, armed with youthful enthusiasm and a will to work. But the majority will also be saddled with debt. To gain an insight into this challenge, we spoke with two of our experts at opposite ends of the generational divide: reward consultant Spencer Hughes graduated from Swansea University in 2018 and Business Development Director Andrew Walker studied at Aston University before student loans were introduced. We asked them how companies, and HR in particular, can help these younger workers?

Rethink Employee Benefits Before Your Workforce Walks
The construction industry is in the middle of a people crisis. Skilled construction workers are hard to find, and even harder to keep. HR and site leaders are under pressure to deliver more with less, across multiple sites and roles, supporting a workforce that’s often offline and on the move.
