Survey Reveals Critical Disconnect Between Employee Awareness and Benefits Packages

Posted on: Thursday July 04, 2024

A new survey carried out in June 2024 involving a significant sample of senior-level HR professionals has uncovered a concerning gap in employee engagement with benefits packages. According to the findings, 82.5% of participants reported that at least half of their employees aren't engaged with their benefits offer. Alarmingly, this disengagement is even more pronounced among managerial staff. With much press highlighting the excessive workloads managers now face, a lack of understanding and awareness of benefits has far-reaching implications for organisations.

This issue is particularly concerning given that according to Boundless a typical UK company invests between £100 - £200 a month per employee on benefits yet a study by Vitality indicates that only 30% of employees are aware of these offerings, suggesting a major disconnect between the effort put into benefits packages and the actual return in terms of employee awareness and engagement.

Innecto Reward Consultancy in collaboration with Brightmine, HR data and insights provider (formerly XpertHR), designed the comprehensive survey to collect data in June after Innecto revealed it was frequently hearing from companies that many are grappling with the lack of employee engagement with benefits. The survey findings were supported by participants in follow on focus groups.

Director of Consulting, Justine Woolf says: ‘The insights shared in the focus groups combined with the data from the survey has been illuminating as to the challenges that many businesses face when it comes to engaging employees with their benefits propositions. It’s clear that the most prevalent methods are not necessarily the most effective methods and as such, prevent organisations from getting a good ROI on their benefits spend. Companies relying on the intranet to do the heavy lifting to communicate their benefits won’t cut it. The most effective routes for true employee engagement are via push notifications, face-to-face demonstrations and roadshows. Technology supported by dedicated human interaction is seemingly the best way to engage employees.”

HR Professionals can join the "Boosting Engagement: A Better ROI on Your Benefits" webinar to delve deeper into these findings and discuss actionable strategies with Brightmine and Innecto at 11 am on July 10th.
